Standardisation also included the follow‐up assessment at 1 year and then after 3–4 years. Prior to tooth random assignment, all teeth were cleaned, local anaesthesia applied and under rubber dam isolated. This researcher accompanied each clinical step, to ensure the standardisation of the clinical procedures, including clinical and radiographic diagnosis, rubber dam installation, caries removal and application of the restoration/sealing technique. Treatments were performed by 20 dental students from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (34 teeth) and by 1 experience dentist (20 teeth), who supervised all the procedures at chair side.
